Another Gas Source

Trapped under the Arctic permafrost and in ocean floors are a new optentail gas source. Gas hydrates containing methane are found here, and it is believed to contain more energy than the world's current sources (gas, oil, coal).

But is mining it safe? What happens if we accidentaly release too much methane into the atmosphere?
